At Tryon Family Dentistry, we understand that our patients may be fearful of going to the dentist because they fear any pain or discomfort associated with dental treatment.
What is Sedation Dentistry
Oral sedation dentistry involves the administration of sedative drugs via an oral route, generally to facilitate a dental procedure and reduce a patient’s anxiety related to the experience.
Why We Use Sedation Dentistry
- Relieves anxiety
- Increases comfort
- Eases Odontophobia
- Effective
- Safe
Oral sedation also aids in reducing memory or the sights and smells of the dental office to avoid recall of any trauma. The sedative effect allows for more dentistry to be completed in fewer appointments, as well as allowing complex procedures to be performed more quickly.
Aftercare
Oral sedation is pill-based, and effects can last for several hours after treatment. For this reason, it is not recommended to drive yourself home after receiving oral sedatives.
